Please fill in all information on this form if you require interpretation of results and recommendations in the product of your choice. Let us know if you are concerned about specific problems or symptoms. This information should be sent with each sample, but outside the plastic bag.
All Crop Types
Each Sample should represent one major soil type. If the soil type changes within the block and you propose to fertilise those areas separately, then send separate samples from each area. If you do not propose to fertilise them separately, send only the major soil type.
The same argument applies for different varieties, if sampling post-plant. If the variety changes within the block and you propose to fertilise the varieties separately, then send separate samples from each variety. If you do not propose to fertilise them separately, send only the major variety.
Do not sample close to fencelines, gullies, windrows, or where gypsum or lime dumps have been located. Scrape away any loose mulch before sampling. Avoid any contact with bags or implements that have been contaminated with chemicals or fertiliser. Do not use galvanised or rusty tools to take a sample. Place all cores in a clean bucket and then mix them thoroughly. Sub-sample and send about 500g in a strong plastic bag. If you send more than one sample, make sure the bags are clearly labeled in a waterproof pen.
All Crops - Pre-Plant
Take 20 to 30 core samples 15cm deep randomly through the block.
Pastures, Field Crops, Peanuts, Beans - Post-Plant
Take 20 to 30 core samples 15cm deep randomly through the block. Avoid manure or urine contaminated areas and areas near fence lines or stock yards.
Tree Crops - Post-Plant
Take 20 to 30 core samples 15cm deep randomly through the orchard. Take only within the fertilised and watered area - about two thirds of the way from the trunk to the dripline. Don't take from directly around the sprinkler.
Each sample should represent one major soil type, as outlined in the general section below, and one tree age.
Drip Irrigated Small Crops - Post-Plant (Conventional and QuickSoil Tests)
Take 20 to 30 core samples 15cm deep randomly through the orchard. Take only within the fertilised and watered area - about half way from the dripper to the edge of the wetted zone. Sample about 15 to 30cm from the plant, if plastic mulch is not used.
Flood and Overhead Irrigated Small Crops - Post-Plant
Take 20 to 30 core samples 15cm deep randomly through the block. Take only within the fertilised area - about midway between the edge of the bed and the centre.
Drip Irrigated Cane - Post-Plant
Take 20 to 30 core samples 15cm deep randomly through the block. With subsurface drip, sample at the edge of the stool, and with surface drip, sample between the tape and the edge of the wetted zone.
Flood and Overhead Irrigated Cane - Post-Plant
Take 20 to 30 core samples 15cm deep randomly through the block. Sample at the edge of the stool.
