PLEASE NOTE: This is only a small sample of the crops we test, if the crop or crop group you want to sample is not in the list below, or you are not sure, simply contact us for collection instructions.

PLANT SAMPLING

Select the correct leaf - select crop below

Sample the youngest fully expanded leaf

Select an average representative area in the field for monitoring

Select average representative plants - avoid diseased plants

Collect enough sample for 3ml sap - see notes for leaf numbers

Do not mix varieties in the sample as there may be some variation

Optimum time to sample is from 8am - 3pm - at a similar time each sampling

Avoid sampling immediately after rain

Note heat or cold stresses when sampling

Note fertiliser and irrigation times and application rates if possible.

HANDLING AND TRANSPORT

Use plastic bags

Collect dry samples

Keep cool and dry (don't freeze, or place in direct sunlight)

Send in post (Express courier), bus (coastal route), or Courier

Apply "Keep cool and dry" Stickers if available. Freezer bricks are not required

Do not over pack- compression will cause deterioration

INFORMATION SHEETS -- MUST HAVE:

Crop name - (variety or cultivar if known)

Stage of growth - Flowering etc.

Age - weeks, months or years.

Irrigation - type and efficiency, and water quality

Performance - Vegetative growth, Fruit set, Yield.

Symptoms - colour, stripes, spots, distortion, burn, fruit quality.

Soil type and colour - sand, sandy loam, clay loam, red, brown, etc.

History - previous crop - past problems, length of fallow
