Fruit Testing

small logo

Standard Fruit Test includes:
pH, EC, K, Ca, Mg, Na, Cl, Brix

Fruit testing can be done at all stages of fruit development and this will show the rate of nutrient uptake into the fruit as well as the nutrient balance in the fruit. This information can be used to assist in fine tuning the current irrigation and fertiliser program as well. Pre-harvest fruit tests can also be used to predict potential quality issues that may occur during the marketing chain.

Fruit Sampling

For all crops, make sure that the samples are taken from representative sites unless specific assessment for problem areas is required. Send the fruit in a sealed plastic bag and ensure that there is no moisture inside the bag.

Fruitlets: a minimum of 30 fruitlets is required for fruit up to 20mm
Mid Sized fruit: 6-12 pieces of fruit per sample depending on the size of the fruit
Pre-harvest: a minimum of 6 pieces of fruit is required for each sample. In the case of large fruit, sample pieces from at least 6 fruit and send the bulked sample of pieces for analysis.
