Since 1986, Crop Tech has sought the World's best technology for soil moisture monitoring, beginning with Tensiometers, then Neutron Probes, and now capacitance probes which enable Crop Tech and its customers to have a far more accurate analysis of the soil moisture. Crop Tech used the old EnviroScan cable system and now uses the new wireless CropSense developed for Crop Systems International, to meet the needs of the farmer. These water monitoring devices are capable of continuously monitoring soil moisture to accurately schedule irrigation. Crop Tech has developed strategies for irrigation management of a range of crops using this technology. These strategies are designed to save water, as well as maximise crop yield and quality.

TOPClimate/Weather Monitoring
Weather stations are used to forecast disease and insect activity so that unnecessary pesticide applications are avoided, and pest and disease damage is kept to a minimum. The data is also used to calculate daily plant water use (evapo-transpiration) and to identify extreme conditions that may cause physiological disorders within the crop, the effects of which may be minimised by timely applications of foliar nutrients or other management practices.

TOPIrrigation Consulting
Irrigation management strategies and soil moisture monitoring can be arranged without buying a system. There are two options available for growers. A rental system can be arranged, where the grower manages the system himself. For those who are not confident with the use and interpretation of data, Crop Tech provides a full consultancy service, whereby a system is installed to suit the crop and soil type and used by one of Crop Techs irrigation agronomists who will monitor, download, and interpret the data, then give a recommendation along with the data collected. An hourly rate applies for this service. Crop Tech conducts training courses on the use and interpretation of environmental monitoring data for large companies, down to sessions for groups of independent growers.

TOPInstallation Equipment
Crop Tech now manufactures its own soil moisture monitoring installation equipment and soil sampling corers. The lightweight installation kits are made from stainless steel and the multi-functional components enable ease of use, and can be exported anywhere in the world. Orders can be placed for specific requirements. Included in the kits is an instructional video on CD explaining installation and extraction for either the CropSense or EnviroScan.
